Let the construction begin!

Almost seven years ago, when we committed to buying our home we hemmed and hawed over adding a third bedroom to the mix. We eventually decided to decline, and I’m glad we did that at the time. It was the day we took possession of our new-construction-cookie-cutter home that we found out we could, in fact, add a third bedroom in the future (right over our living room for those that have been in our home) and we’ve always kept that in the back of our minds since then.

As the housing market tanked and our list of custom-options we desired for our next, and hopefully, final home grew we realized that we would like to stay in our current home for as long as possible before trying to sell (or rent) it out and build our dream house. More time in our current house allows us to do a few things-

1. build more equity (especially since we just refinanced to a kick-debt-in-the-butt 15 year mortgage!)

2. save more $ for our dream home

3. really fine-tune the options we do want in our eventual custom built dream home (on lots of land!).

After considering all of these options and our need for more space in our home, we realized that the third bedroom addition is really the way to go for us. So we initiated contact with a general contractor we know and he was all in! Nathan pulled the permit yesterday and hopefully construction will get started within the next two weeks!

I will admit, I am kind of nervous about having our house torn apart for, possibly, months on end. However, I know the end result will be worth it!!!

Crowned Kitchen

This past weekend I was able to right an “injustice” that has been bothering me for four years. That injustice was not having crown on our kitchen cabinets. Having previously been a custom cabinet maker this small nuance really annoyed me as the kitchen cabinets never looked finished. So this past weekend after installing a piece of crown for my mother-in-law, she gave Amy and I the remaining crown which I was able to use to crown our kitchen. I am quite please with how it turned out.

Re-doing the house…

Got a ton of painting done over the weekend, still a lot left but I’ve booked a painter through work that we’ll get an ultra discounted rate on. Plus he’ll be able to get it done in a fraction of the time it would have taken me.

We also booked our carpets to be cleaned on Friday. Daisy Carpet Cleaners in Apple Valley. They had a nice website and a good price so they’ll be cleaning our living room, dining room, and stairs. Can’t wait to have pretty, fresh carpets again!!!

Tonight and tomorrow night we have to tear apart the house to get ready for the painter and carpet cleaners. Friday night I’ll be putting everything back together again and it will all be so fresh and super pretty! I’m so excited!!! Can’t wait to see it all once it’s done…

Home projects!!!

This weekend is a weekend for house improvements! I’ve been wanting to re-do our bathroom for some time and I decided to just bite the bullet and get it done with this weekend!

Went to Bed Bath and Beyond last night and got new decor for our master bath and I will be painting and redecorating it this weekend! So excited!!! It also helps that I have my choice of paints from our paint room downstairs Picked out a nice coffee color, hopefully what I’m planning to do with that color works out!!!

Nathan and I are also really excited to go see Boondock Saints II this weekend! Should be excellent.

Anywho, better get back to work… Counting the minutes til I can go home and get started on our projects!!!
