I had a most excellent 27th birthday!!! I woke up to the smell of breakfast cooking, Nathan made me cheesy eggs and biscuits, so delicious!!! Over the past week he has been giving me various winemaking ingredients and tools each day. At breakfast he gave me all the other supplies I need to make wine plus an extra carboy (glass jug) to make things easier. So fantastic!!!
He then drove me to my mom’s house and I got a huge birthday hug from my favorite niece, Gwen, and she excitedly gave me a pomegranite (my mom buys me one every year on my bday). I then headed to work…
At work they had a mini surprise party for me, it was so great and complete with balloons, a Disney Princess cake, and Leeann Chin for lunch. Gwen and my brother came as well and Gwen sang me an adorable rendition of Happy Birthday. My mom gave me the awesomest radio/ipod dock ever to use at work (I work in the basement and my old radio had craptastic reception).
Nathan picked me up around 4 and we headed up to Midwest Brewing to get juice for winemaking, it was fun to look at everything and pick out the type of wine we wanted to make (Reisling). Then we headed to Parma in Bloomington. Parma was amazing. First they had an excellent happy hour so we sat at the bar for a half hour or so and enjoyed a couple glasses of wine and some calamari. Then off to our table we went where, Rick, an amazing server helped us pick out a salad and entree to share (Apple/onion salad and Stuffed Veal pasta) for dinner. There also was a plate of delicious garlic cheese bread that was complementary. We enjoyed our dinner and then Grandmother’s Torte for dessert. The service could not have been better. Our table was always clear, our water glasses full, and attention always paid.
After dinner we stopped at Target to get a few necessities and spring water for winemaking and headed home to make some wine!!! The winemaking process was fun! It was interesting trying to sterlize all of our equipment before getting started, but once that was done everything was super easy! We now have 6 gallons of juice (which will make 30 bottles) fermenting in our kitchen!
After we sat down to watch “The Edukators” for my international film class until I realized it’s FIVE HOURS long! Seriously?!?! Kind of mean for a teacher to assign a FIVE HOUR film and not give you a forewarning, I feel bad for all those people that don’t realize it until the night before class. Oh, and the teacher prefers you to watch the film TWICE. Yeah, NOT doing that with this one. One more time, FIVE HOURS!!! I still am in shock, I didn’t know they made FIVE HOUR films!!!!
Really looking forward to tonight. Jessica and Polly are coming over and we’re going to celebrate my birthday! We are ordering pizza, drinking wine (Just me and Polly for that part), playing cards, and making chocolate chip cookies! The perfect night in
The rest of my weekend will be spent doing Logic homework, Literature homework, and watching the FIVE HOUR movie The Edukators.
PS Thank you to everyone who facebooked, called, and/or texted me birthday wishes yesterday!
