Backpacking Weekend

As we fly through Duluth I checked the weather and have confirmed the fun for this weekend. As we hike 20 miles will will encounter 30-40 degree weather with a 90% chance of snow, and finished off with 20mph winds. Weather.com states that there is winter weather warning. Lol. Snow, wind, and cold…sounds like a great weekend!  :-D

Dakota County Acknowledges How Extreme I am

Yesterday evening as Amy and I finished our short (2,.2 mile) hike around Jensen Lake @ Lebanon Hills park a flyer on the announcement board caught my eye. There appeared to be an orange bike like my Specialized Hardrock.

Oh my gosh that is me!

Oh my gosh that is me!

As I got closer I was like “Yeah sweet that is a Hardrock”. As I moved in for a closer inspection I realized the rider was wearing a jersey just like mine. This thought was quickly followed by the realization that the shorts looked just like mine too. And all three items looked just like mine because the very photo I was staring at was a photo of me that Amy took at Lebanon Hills mountain biking park. The very photo I posted here back in May of 2009 regarding Amy and I’s first ride of that year.
It is great to see that when Dakota County needs to demonstrate the extremely extremeness of their park system they chose to use photos of me. My primary concern now is what are they going to do when their parks are filled with visitors due to this awesome flyer? :-D This flyer is for an event to discuss Fall 2011 mountain bike construction at Lebanon Hills park.

I hope that in the future they decided that copyright laws are in place for a reason. A  little bit of respect goes a long way. It’s not really a big deal as I am more than happy to share my photos for such uses, but permission should be granted before one creates a flyer that is distributed to the public (see the little copyright symbol at the bottom of this page?). It is disappointing that our own government feels a Google image search is a fair place to use as a stock photography site for the creation of advertisements. That being said, Amy and I find this whole thing quite hilarious!

God has gifted my husband with a jackpot of skill-sets…

I have to brag on Nathan a little here, so bear with me please :-)

God knew exactly what I needed when he gave me Nathan.  Between my grandpa and dad, the men in my life could do most things.  I think God knew that I would need a man that couldn’t just do most things, but could do all things.  And that is exactly what Nathan can do, everything!!!

I think the best way to show how much Nathan can do is write out everything he did this weekend so here we go:

  • He installed an auxiliary jack into his S10 so he can plug his iPod in.
  • Our remote controlled bedroom fan (which we use nightly and was free from my mom) was on the fritz.  He took apart the fan to fix it.  Ended up disassembling the motor, cleaning it, reassembled said fan and Wall-ah!  Good as new!  (saved $65)
  • The headlight assembly on the Cadillac was broken and needed to be replaced ($300), with a bit of glass glue, chrome spray paint, and elbow grease he had it fixed for less than $10.
  • He removed the rusted through fuel door on the Cadillac and sanded off all rust and applied fiberglass.  Once that’s fully dry he’ll be finishing off the fiberglass and painting it black to match the car.
  • He changed the oil on the Cadillac and topped off the low tire.
  • Tonight he’s helping me fully embed 3 video clips into my group’s powerpoint presentation for class on Wednesday (so the video is actually a part of the powerpoint and you don’t have to go to the internet to view it).

This is just a sampling of the skill sets he’s used in the past few days, and there is far more that he has the talent and ability to do as well.

I thank the Lord daily for the amazing husband he sent me and I thank Nathan often for doing everything that he does for us.  He is the best man I know and I love him more than words can say :-)
