To a little known rock star

A little love story to a car that fills a big place in our hearts

I just wanted to take a moment to say a special thank you to a little know rock star. Yeah you may only be a rock star to but two people, but to those two people you are the king of your domain. Day in and day out you cruise along giving us a relatively smooth ride, low interior noise, and a solid sound system. Your seat warmers are our best friend on those cold Minnesota winter days. Your sun roof provides an appreciated source of fresh air in the Spring and Summer. Now you engine may get a little warm from time to time, and your check engine light may not want to go off because some silly emissions device is acting wonky…but we really do not care. You have been a tried an true soldier through so many life events. How many times have you left us stranded 800 miles from home in Danville, Ill? ZERO! How many times have you left us stranded anywhere? ZERO! In your 5x years of service to use you have NEVER let us down. Now it is true I have never taken you move than 380 miles from home, but on that faithful day that we went to Thunder Bay, Ontario you once again proved you were ready for the road ahead. I remember right after we passed through the border patrol station, where we kept that agent in-line, with a flick of a button you put all of your gauges into metric. You did not make me have to think, oh gee what is 70 kilometers per hour in miles per hour…you just told your sexy gauges “Hey guys, it is time to display information in the lesser format known as the metric system!”. When I left Tofte, MN did I think about how would I drive the speed limit when I got to Canada, no of course not. But when it can time for us to cross that bridge, you were there for me. You, Amy, and I have countless stories of how you have been a diligent friend that never lets us down. Yeah maybe you do not have the best gas mileage (17-18mpg), and maybe you like to drink down the oil a little faster than any other cars we have owned(about a quart every 1k miles). So you are not perfect but what auto is? We have been together since around July of 2004. When I bought you used you had 126,000 miles. At the time it seemed as though you may be too old for a solid relationship to form between us, but clearly I was wrong. You have delivered a great 74,000 miles to Amy and I.

What this all boils down to my friend is that in the world of autos you are a true rock star! GM ought to give you a metal for your 14 years of honorable service. Congratulation on reaching 200,000 miles on April 9th, at 4:40 A.M on County road 3 in Rosemount, Minnesota.

Letter to a friend

Dear Caddy,

You reached a milestone this morning.  200,000 miles you’ve traveled to get there.  Most of those miles have been spent with us.  Those miles have been a blessing and we are ever grateful.

A toast now to your health, wellness, and continued success for another 200,000 miles!!!

Your companions in life,

The Heins

Tough Love

There comes a point in everyone’s lives when you just can’t give anymore.  You have sacrificed so much time, effort, love, and money to help someone out and the person you helped continues to turn around and throw it back in your face.

How many chances can you be expected to give someone???  One too many, that’s what they continue expect.  There comes a point when you just can’t give anymore.  No matter how much you want to, no matter how much it hurts, there is just nothing left to give.

If it really came down to it you could find a way to help.  But that wouldn’t teach them anything.  Sometimes you just have to say no.  Because saying yes would only prolong the problem and the pain that comes with it.

So I am saying no.  No.  I will not be a doormat.  No.  I will not have my heart ripped out again.  I am saying no.  Because if I say yes you will never learn that we are not bailing you out anymore.  If I say yes you will just do this again.  If I say yes you will never learn your lesson.  So screw you, figure your own problems out.  No.  We are not helping anymore.

No.  Never again.
